15. Masculine Gender of Interrogative Pronoun किम् 

Interrogative pronoun किम् means “who?” or “what?”. It has three masculine-gender forms in the nominative case.

• कः (masculine, singular) Who? What?
• कौ (masculine, dual) Who? What?
• के (masculine, plural) Who? What?

Singular Number

सः कः अस्ति।

saḥ kaḥ asti Who is he?

सः नर्तकः अस्ति।

saḥ nartakaḥ asti He is a dancer.

अयं कः भवति।

ayaṃ kaḥ bhavati Who is this?

अयं शिक्षकः भवति।

ayaṃ śikṣakaḥ bhavati This is a teacher.

Dual Number

तौ कौ स्तः।

tau kau staḥ Who are those two?

तौ नर्तकौ स्तः।

tau nartakau staḥ Those two are dancers.

इमौ कौ भवतः।

imau kau bhavataḥ Who are these two?

इमौ शिक्षकौ भवतः।

imau śikṣakau bhavataḥ These two are teachers.

Plural Number

ते के सन्ति।

te ke santi Who are they?

ते नर्तकाः सन्ति।

te nartakāḥ santi They are dancers.

इमे के भवन्ति।

ime ke bhavanti Who are these?

इमे शिक्षकाः भवन्ति।

ime śikṣakāḥ bhavanti These are teachers.
