Upcoming update: Perks and special moves

Hello again! We're back with another article, and this time we want to share information about the comprehensive rework of abilities in update 1.28.0.
As we mentioned in our last article, along with the introduction of Void Raids, we're planning to change and upgrade the perk and special move systems.

MAIN OBJECTIVES:

The perk system let you customize your character and play style to fit your preferences, as well as helping you adapt to tough enemies that require a special approach. Special moves helped you go more in-depth with your choice of fighting style by letting you create stunning combos during combat.

Before going into detail, we'd like to lay out what goals we had in mind while working on the update.

  • Preserving the variety of perks and ways to combine them.
  • Making the perk selection more understandable for players in different situations.
  • Enhancing the faction-specific qualities of perks.
  • Making it possible to use special moves without forcing you to choose between them and perks.
  • Adding value to special moves as part of your overall style, even if you don't use them.
  • Making acquiring and upgrading perks and special moves more understandable and convenient.
  • Letting you compensate for changes when rebalancing, and let you rotate perk sets in the future without any downside for players.

Changes to Equipment Slots

"One key change was creating a separate equipment slot for special moves. Previously, players had to choose between assigning a perk or a special move. This happened particularly often with armor and special moves that were used for unarmed combat."

After our changes, weapons and armor now have a separate slot for special moves.

Upgrade System

"We decided to totally rework the system for upgrading perks and special moves.

Previously, players struggled to purposefully upgrade the perks and special moves they liked. Upgrading a perk to the maximum level via the standard acquisition of cards sometimes proved impossible. The new system lets you choose the perks and special moves that you want to upgrade for maximum effectiveness in combat."

As you take part in various activities in the game, you have a chance to get new resources:

Umbracite — a resource used to level up perks
Chrysonite — a resource used to level up special moves
Magmium — a resource used to upgrade the rarity of special moves

By using these resources, you can decide for yourself when and what aspects of your character you want to enhance.

Conversion

"As we reworked the upgrade system, we removed some perks and added others, and changed the special move mechanics. We came to realize that the system would be hard to integrate with players' existing progress, and would also prevent us from developing these systems in the future."

We made the decision to totally relaunch the perk and special move system, compensating players for the effort they put into them with new resources.

All of your perks and special moves will be reset to level one.

If you had a perk that was removed from the game, you'll receive Void Keys as compensation. You can use them to open Void Chests and get the corresponding number of new perks.

The number of resources has been chosen to ensure that perk effectiveness remains at the same level you had before the conversion, taking the change in their power into consideration and balance changes.

You can find more details about the conversion process for perks and special moves here.

Changes to Special Moves

"As we mentioned above, special moves had a number of significant problems that prevented them from providing the game experience that was originally intended. We don't want the rarity of special moves to restrict customization of fighting style, and we don't want special moves that don't suit a player's fighting style to be useless to them."

All special moves start out at common rarity.
You can upgrade their rarity. To do so, you must first use Chrysonite to level up the special move, then use Magmium to upgrade its rarity. Every special move has 20 levels.

Increasing a special move's rarity gives it additional stats that affect your whole style. This stat comes into effect when a special move reaches level 6 and strengthens at levels 11, 16, and 20.

You can get special moves by opening Void Raid chests.

Changes to Perks

"The perk system hasn't been updated for a while. Subsequent additions of sets and faction bonuses significantly changed the style of playing in a faction. Currently, perks lack consistency and characteristics that highlight a faction's identity.
On top of that, we also want to continually improve perk sets, but the old perk progress system made this impossible. The new system lets us work on balancing and improving the combat system more easily."

We've separated the majority of perks for each faction into tracks to make them more understandable and to highlight the combat style of each faction.

Some perks were reworked and others were removed. New perks were also added. Find more detailed information about this topic here.

You can earn Rare perks by completing story chapters. Earn Epic and Legendary perks by opening Void Raid chests.

Conclusion:

This is one of the largest-scale reworks of basic systems since Shadow Fight 3 was launched. We're confident that you'll like the changes, and that they'll help you create a fighting style that is unique to YOU!
