Making of Escape from Tarkov motion video

Hey

My name is Vadim, I'm 24 yo. I create some sorts of animations, motion videos, visual effects, and all that stuff for like past 1.5 years or so. Today I'd like to tell you about my current personal project based on one of my favorite games.

What is a motion video?

You might have seen an advertisement like this:

They typically contain lots of abstract scenes, highlight the main features of a specific product. So you might think that this kind of video can not have anything in common with Escape from Tarkov. But I had an idea.

The idea

I asked a couple of dozen people around EfT fan communities what things they like the most about the game. The shortest answer and the most common one (featured by 95%+ of interviewed) was "gun porn". So this is going to be the main theme of my video.

So, what's next?

Just after my research, I started creating draft versions of scenes. Their purpose is only to create the story and dynamics while being entertaining and somewhat informative.

Some of my ideas required different techniques and software. For example, muzzle flash was created by simulating an explosion inside a gun barrel, just like as it happens when a real gun fires.

A weird thing happened to cloth simulation, in that case, I've redone it in another piece of software that handles that type of work better and faster.

At some point, I wanted to merge both, computer graphics and real-life shots. I'll put CG in real-life shots and vice versa.

And the rest of the scenes are just dynamic animations, with smooth transitions based on camera movement.

What it looks like now:

At the later stages, I'm going to add more objects into the scenes, create an atmospheric environment (hopefully, just like in the game), tweak lighting, materials, and textures, and compose real-life shots.

And this is it for now. I'd like you to comment on this and share your ideas. Your opinion is important and will help me make a better video.

Thank you!
