The German brand re-created a concept car it originally debuted in 1970, called the BMW Garmisch. The 2019 Garmisch has been recreated using a digital 3D design plan and the memory of Bertone’s former design leader Marcello Gandini.

The BMW Group Design and BMW Classic departments had to retrace every detail of the car's exterior and interior from a selection of period images. 80-year-old Marcello Gandini says that he can barely distinguish the rebuilt concept from the original vehicle.

Its design group had to revive every detail of the car’s exterior and interior from a limited selection of 1970 images. At the time of its creation, the original car boasted a considerably futuristic design both inside and out. The interior, for example, featured a large mirror popping out of the glove box, while the radio was positioned upright at the center console.

Sadly, there's no information about the engine. It was likely based on the inline-six cylinder that BMW used in the late 1960s.

Following its reveal at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, the original Garmisch disappeared while on its way to BMW’s headquarters in Munich. It is widely reported that no one knows where the car went, even to this day, as little trail of the model was left behind as well, save for some black and white photographs.
