2002 Cadillac Cien Concept.
To celebrate Cadillac's 100th anniversary ("cien" is Spanish for one hundred) the Cadillac Cien created a 2-door high performance concept car in 2002.
The body and chassis were made of carbon fiber composite that is lightweight and stiff. The Cien was equipped with scissor-style doors. The car could hit 100km/h in an estimated 3.5 seconds, and continue on to a top speed of around 320km/h.
Officially unveiled at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show, the Cadillac Cien was a breathtaking concept powered by a 7.5L V12 engine, which produced 750hp. The engine featured direct injection and displacement on demand feature, which could shut down up to 6 cylinders under lighter load for fuel economy’s sake. The Cien was fitted with an F-1 style semi-automatic transmission.
The Cien had all of the technological advances you would expect in the early 2000s, including Night Vision, using thermal imaging to display a view beyond the headlights via a heads-up display projected on the windshield.
There were plans to put the Cien into production, but due to the lack of development funds and the high expected selling price of US$200000, the sales plans were cancelled. The estimate value of the only car exceeds 2 million dollars today.
