China Opens A Restaurant Manned By Robots.
- The restaurant in Foshan, southern China, has over 20 different types of robots. Robotic workers cooking noodles and making burgers. It can serve nearly 600 diners at once with hundreds of freshly prepared dishes.
- The high-tech eatery with droid waiters can serve nearly 600 customers at once with hundreds of robot-cooked dishes, according to the restaurant. The eatery was launched by a Chinese Country Garden group, under its droid catering division called Qianxi.
The robot-manned restaurant serves a wide range of cuisines, from traditional Chinese dishes like stir-fry and clay-pot rice, to fast food like hamburgers and chips. Customers can be served with a robot-cooked meal as fast as 20 seconds after ordering.
Country Garden has previously opened a restaurant partially manned by robots, but the new eatery is upgraded with newly-developed machines to prepare the food without any human staff.
The company said that Foodom Restaurant is created in a bid to improve food hygiene by completely avoiding human contacts. The Chinese company claims that the robot-manned eatery is the first of its kind in the country, and even in the world.
The spread of robot restaurants will inevitably spark a strong resistance from human workers who stand to lose a lot from this trend. Country Garden plans on opening up to 1000 restaurants throughout China in the near future.
