Lesson 48. Perfect Continuous Tenses.

Времена Perfect Continuous используются для обозначения процесса, который начался и длился в течение некоторого времени до некоего момента в настоящем, прошлом или будущем.

Present Perfect Continuous:

Время Present Perfect Continuous указывает на действие, которое началось в прошлом, продолжалось в течение некоторого времени и либо закончилось непосредственно перед разговором или все еще продолжается в момент разговора.

Task 1. Fill in the gaps with the forms of Present Perfect or Present Perfect Continuous:

It … (rain) since early morning.
You needn’t take an umbrella. The rain … (stop).
How long… you … (play) the piano?
I … (play) the piano since I was five.
Mary … (choose) books in the library for half an hour.
Peter … (choose) a book by R. Stevenson and is going to buy it.
Victor … (travel) all over the world for ten years.

Past Perfect Continuous:

Время Past Perfect Continuous указывает на действие, которое началось в прошлом, продолжалось в течение некоторого времени и либо закончилось непосредственно перед неким моментом в прошлом или все еще не закончилось к некоему моменту в прошлом.

Task 2. Choose the correct option- Past Perfect or Past Perfect Continuous:

1. The flat was dirty. They hadn’t (cleaned/ been cleaning) it for weeks.

2. I was sad when I sold my car because I had (had/been having) it for a very long time.

3. I knew all those facts because I had (read/ been reading) about it in the report.

4. My stomach ached because I had (eaten/been eating) too much at the party.

5. He was very nervous at the beginning of the match because he had never (played/been playing) in the prime league before.

6. The roads were wet and dangerous because it had (rained/been raining) all night.

7. When I arrived at the party, Ann had already (left/been leaving).

Future Perfect Continuous:

Время Future Perfect Continuous указывает на действие, которое началось и продолжалось в течение некоторого времени до определенного момента в будущем. Это время используется очень редко, а в устной речи – практически никогда.
