Proton X50 "Bumblebee" - internal and external modification value over 50000 ringgits
Proton X50 "Bumblebee" has been on the market. Many would-be owners are still anxiously looking forward to a call from a sales consultant, but for others, the refitting boom has begun. One of them is going crazy on social media. You're right. Meet Bumblebee.
At first glance, it seems that the mod satin is the kind of car you usually do with a low profile. To learn more about the car, Lee (who prefers passing by) showed us a list of changes he has made since he owned the X50. Disclaimer - Lee spent about rm52000 on his 1.5 TGDI flagship so far, but he hasn't fully completed it.
The first thing he did was use chrome delete to make a whole-body package. The original chrome trim around the grilles, headlamps and windows is wrapped in bright black vinyl, as are the roof rails and door handles.
LED headlamps and led fog lamps are still standard, but the rear housing has three LEDs on each side, which are used as conventional daytime running lights and amber turn indicators respectively. All models of the X50 are already equipped with a double front lip, but Lee thinks it's appropriate to add a third front lip with a smooth carbon fiber print.
Moving to one side, inventory of 18-inch alloy has replaced 20-inch wheels from viman. These matte black doubles six spoke rims have a bead seat profile of 8.5 inches (8.5jj), which is the wider 7jj factory profile. Li's preferred tire is Michelin pilot sport 4S (235 / 40 ZR20), because why are you satisfied with less?
We will discuss more about giant rotors below, with a focus on the current aesthetics. Other exterior upgrades include a carbon fiber wing mirror cover, a larger rear spoiler from Geely Binyue sport, LED bars on the tail door (repositioning proton text above it), as well as black Proton and X50.
The exhaust system is semi new. The section from the feed header to the primary catalytic converter (X50 has two cat cons, the first oxygen sensor) remains, but everything behind it is new. The second cat was removed and the new muffler made a more strident sound (amplified by a Bluetooth remote start valve in the pipe). Four tips also get good carbon casings. Finally, there's a hands-free power liftgate, so just wave your foot and swing it wide open.
The interior improvement is not so extensive, but Lee is the kind who spared no effort. The entire dashboard has been wrapped in black Alcantara, replacing the red soft touch plastic, which once beautified the entire top part of the dashboard. The silver dashboard trim, centre armrest and door trim (originally red leather) are wrapped in the same material.
Other details include yellow contrast stitched dashboard, center armrest and door panel. Except for the bright red mat, nothing else has moved. There have been attempts to upgrade the 360-degree system to a higher definition camera, but endeavor encountered a minor technical glitch.
Lee spent about RM4500 upgrading his sound system, which includes new fiberglass speakers, a digital sound processor, and a digital active subwoofer under the seat. All four doors have two layers of acoustic mats, which not only improve the sound quality, but also help to produce a firmer slamming sound when closing.
A lot has been done so far, but if you think it's all about aesthetics, then it's more than that. An interesting device can be seen when opening the hood. It is called Race Chip GTS (one of their most advanced models). This is customer service adjustment chip, which can be used to increase engine output, change ignition timing, optimize air-fuel ratio, and so on.
But for this special purpose, the chip (carried on ECU) is specially used to improve the performance of 1.5tgdi mill. Lee's dyno test showed that the torque of the wheels increased by 22ps and 35nM, which he said would help shorten the 100-year sprint time. A fast-spinning block tells us that off-road vehicles really feel faster off-line, especially in sports mode.
While looking impressive, Li said further improvements could see the output figure rise a little bit (possibly 6 PS and 10 nm above). With this in mind, it is possible for the 1.5 l mill to be slightly higher than 200 PS and close to 300 nm (crank) with tuning chip alone.
The stopping force is provided in front of the large 405mm drill and ventilated rotor. These are from Cadillac CTS-V, a V8 powered super car. The brake discs are clamped by six pistons golden Brembo calipers. At this point, of course, excessive killing is an understatement.
