Paint thickness meter detection methods

The paint thickness meter uses a magnetic bai sensor to measure the non-ferromagnetic coating and plating layer on the base of ferromagnetic metals such as steel and iron. It is widely used in manufacturing, metal processing, chemical industry, commodity inspection, etc. field.
Paint thickness meter-principle method
Magnetic thickness measurement
It is suitable for measuring the thickness of the non-magnetic layer on the magnetic material. The magnetic material is generally: steel, silver and nickel. This method has high measurement accuracy.
Eddy current thickness measurement
It is suitable for measuring the thickness of non-conductive layer on conductive metal. This method has lower accuracy than magnetic thickness measurement.
Ultrasonic thickness measurement
Before measuring, remove any attachments on the surface, such as dust, grease, and corrosion products, but do not remove any covering material. Measurements should not be made at the sudden changes of the test piece, such as edges, holes and inner corners. It should not be measured on the curved surface of the test piece.

Usually, since each reading of the instrument is not exactly the same, it is necessary to take several readings in each measurement area. The local difference in the thickness of the covering layer also requires multiple measurements in any given area, especially when the surface is rough.

The thickness of the coating is measured by electromagnetic induction. The probe on the surface of the component produces a closed magnetic circuit. As the distance between the probe and the ferromagnetic material changes, the magnetic circuit will change to varying degrees, causing changes in the magnetoresistance and the inductance of the probe coil. Using this principle can accurately measure the distance between the probe and the ferromagnetic material, that is, the coating thickness.
