P2E space saga: PlanetQuest overview
We still rarely see high-level P2E Space projects, but we found a really promised one today. PlanetQuest is an open-world AAA game focused on exploring, owning, and managing the planet. The project combines various game genres and mechanics, offering a vast and unique universe with a potential strong gaming community. So let's look under the cover?
About PlanetQuest
PlanetQuest is a P2E project on an Ethereum blockchain dedicated to research, survival, and discovery. PlanetQuest invites players to own, develop, and improve planets to increase their worth. Or they can just explore new worlds to get equipment, artifacts, and valuable resources.
After launching the game, you can begin your journey as an explorer that discovers unknown planets for Quantum and rare artifacts. You can find the entire world story on the site.
By the way, the stories and LOR team are as important for developers as graphics and gameplay. Therefore, we will see a full-fledged Space saga with several factions:
Activities
PlanetQuest is Free to Play game, so you can start without investments. Every Explorer must have a homeworld to start the game, but the developers promise that there will be common planets that will house new players for free. After getting a new home, you are ready to:
Quests and Research: Players will move to the planets, explore them to find Quantum, and team up with other faction members to protect their resources. By exploring, players can earn Quantum ($PQX), find items, and then use it to create new equipment/artifacts for sale to planet owners.
Planets: planets and management it the core of PlanetQuest. Each planet has its characteristics and rarity, which gives individuality and unique value. Some features are defined by the planet class, such as flora (from deserts to alien jungles) and fauna (from generally friendly and playful Qyllits to massive Reapers). Others, such as nebulas, only affect the world's external design.
Guilds: each faction has its kind of guilds, like Houses (Empire), Corporations (Federation), and Coalitions (Union), and each Guild unites many planets under its flag.
After the first release, the team plans to expand the PlanetQuest universe by adding the ability, for example, to build a fleet, or get the energy of the stars. In addition, developers will expand the audience through PlanetQuest stories, comics, art, and movies.
Technical developments
To ensure that each game world is truly unique and Ethereum network does not affect the speed and use of the game, the PlanetQuest team uses a few technologies:
The Genesis Engine - an own project's technology that allows procedurally generating and rendering entire planets. Players can download and render planets in real-time via a web browser. That will allow players to own NFT of stunningly beautiful 3-D worlds.
Immutable X - thanks to Immutable X, the project team will be able to provide players with a quality experience of the blockchain interaction. Even players without a crypto-wallet will be able to start playing and purchasing immediately. In addition, this L2 solution reduces transaction fees to almost zero.
In-game economy
The internal economy of PlanetQuest is based on two types of tokens:
$PQX - is a utilitarian ERC-20 token. $PQX is Quantum. Players need $PQX to make in-game purchases, activate artifact activation, repair equipment, improve the planet, etc. $PQX is a versatile and tradable in-game currency.
NFT - Players' equipment, artifacts, planets, and even guilds will be available as NFT. However, the developers position the planets as the key NFT of PlanetQuest.
The main player's goal is to earn $PQX. Depending on how much players are willing to invest, they can:
Just play - to pass the missions, you can rent equipment and pay for it with some of the earned $PQX.
Receive a rent - owners of NFT will be able to give it to players more focused on Free to Play for rent payments.
Manage the planet - the planet generates income depending on the type (Desert, Forest, Tropical, Icy, Volcanic, and Strange) of the world and the number of players who chose it as a homeworld.
Running the Guild - Guilds receive income from planet owners who participate in the Guild, so it is their interest to recruit new members.
Everything is like in RL - if you don't want to invest, you will need to work hard and spend time on quests. But if you own a planet or much equipment, you can count on passive income, regardless of the game activity.

Roadmap
PlanetQuest has a quarterly roadmap designed for 1.5 years - from Q4 2021 to Q1 2023. We will see the release of the game only at the start of next year, but until then, the developers:
Tested the NFT planets procedural generation technology and provided the first pictures.
Launched Explorer Passport - the player account that stores all his achievements.
The last pre-public token sale will be completed in the second quarter, and the third quarter will be the guild sale, public token listing + sale, and planet surface preview. The team plans to sell equipment and publish a gameplay preview at the end of the year.
Team and partners
Partners, investors, and team members are available on the site. There is Tier-1 Alameda Research on the investor list, but the key partner of the project it's Immutable X with their Ethereum NFT scaling technology:
The team on the site is represented without any information, but you can find all of them in the PlanetQuest Medium:
There is a whole article for each team member (11 articles in total), and we are sure you will manage this part of DYOR by yourself. We just say that it's aTOP team - developers have experience creating AAA projects, games LOR, writing novels, and even astrophysics learning.
Strengths of PlanetQuest
Active Social Networking - if Twitter on 24.7K Followers is not very impressive, Discord on 239K participants looks fantastic, especially since the Ambassador program has just begun.
Strong developers - make sure of this yourself by reading the bio of all team members. Interestingly, the project has brought together a "game" team, writers, and creators, which indicates the original and elaborate universe.
Сompliance with the roadmap - if we see a release in early 2023, it will be one of the earliest AAA P2E projects, with all the following benefits.
Exciting gameplay and ideas - the technology of procedural generation of planets and their gameplay value highlight PlanetQuest among competitors. Planets here mean more than just "lands".
The $PQX utility - many use-cases and the necessity to spend a token in the game give a chance that players will not just drain the earned $PQX to the exchanges.
Weakness of PlanetQuest
There is still no full demo - the demonstration of the planets' surfaces is planned only for Q3. Before that, we can just look at the concept art and read the fascinating descriptions.
Unequal P2E - the main beneficiaries of PlanetQuest are the planet's owners. Other players will likely have difficulty making a profit with the game. However, the gameplay is more important for the regular player, not the profitability.
Ownership engagement - planet and guild owners will be able to earn $PQX even with low gaming activity. Passive Income + Low interest = tokens draining. It needs more information about the gameplay to understand how the owners will be involved in the gameplay.
Conclusions
PlanetQuest is another AAA on our list. P2E seems to have a qualitative shift that turns into a general trend. The developers change their focus from game addicts to gamers, who want not to earn by playing but play and earn. The PlanetQuest team makes a vast universe, which is not limited to a game and can attract gamers, Sci-Fi, and space sagas fans.
PlanetQuest looks large, impressive, and promising. We just hope that the P2E trend will not die before the project's release and that the developers are implementing all ideas as promised. There is a usual recommendation: follow PlanetQuest's social pages and participate in all announced activities.
If your DYOR gives promising results, it's still not too late to participate in a planetsale.
